Voter Registration Drive a Success!

Far beyond our goal, HHH members registered over 122 folks to vote in our two-day voter registration drive. The large numbers are a particular victory, given the controversy over homeless voters that arose in 2005 and ended with many individuals having their registration cancelled. According to Board of Elections regulation, individuals who register with the Urban Ministry Center as their address are asked to draw a map of where they sleep at night (see above). Sharing this information can be quite uncomfortable for individuals, as many of those on the streets prefer to keep their nightly abode secret, as to avoid arrest by the police. This makes the high number of individuals registered an even greater success. Thanks to Claudia Moses, Tommy Yarborough, Beth Wells, Michael Blackwell, Angie Forde and Rob Weigle for making the event possible.
