Homeless Helping Homeless
Homeless Helping Homeless (HHH) does not give the homeless a voice, it is the voice of the homeless. Since 2001, members of the homeless community have, through HHH, advocated and organized politically for themselves. Facilitated by the Urban Ministry Center as part of the Community Works 945 project, HHH demonstrates civic concern, honesty, and genuine commitment by and on behalf of the homeless in Charlotte, NC.

2nd HHH Annual Dance Was a Huge Success!
“Wonderful. Fantastic. Sensational.” These are the words HHH chairperson Rollon Washington used to describe our second annual fundraiser dance held last Saturday night at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. Indeed, the dance was a wonderful, fantastic, sensational success in every aspect: said Vera Pugh, “The crowd was great, the dancing was great, the security was great, the music was great, the food was great. It was excellent.”
With over 100 people in attendance, a diversely colorful crowd danced for over three hours to the music of The Supremes, The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, and many other oldies favorites. “The enjoyment of the old school music will stay with people quite awhile,” said Rollon.
But there was more than just dancing and food. Dawoud Assad and Angie Forde both gave inspiring speeches about HHH’s vision to end homelessness.
The dance raised an impressive total of $3,000. All proceeds are going towards HHH’s trip to the National Alliance to End Homelessness Annual Conference. Such success has spurred HHH members to raise their goals for next year even higher. “We are expecting an even bigger crowd next year,” said Rollon. “We are going to get more people involved and interested in the cause.”
