HHH Softball Tournament

Last Friday afternoon, nearly one hundred folks gathered at Sugaw Creek Park for fun, food, fellowship. . . and softball.

HHH hosted a four-game tournament followed by a pig roast. The first round of play had Hope Haven beating the Urban Ministry Center/Homeless Helping Homeless team. On the other field, Uptown Men's Shelter won against McCreesh Place. For the final round, Uptown Men's Shelter secured a win over Hope Haven, and McCreesh Place beat the UMC/HHH team.
HHH member and first-time-ever softball player Cora Bowen was impressed with the optimistic and encouraging attitudes surrounding the event. "It gave people an outlet to do something positive. We all joined together and there was no chaos, no drama. It was great." Cora said a highlight from the event was when Will from UMC/HHH team hit a homerun in the game against Hope Haven. "Everyone got so excited. We were all chanting, '9-4-5, 9-4-5'. I lost my voice!" Cora is already looking forward to having another game. "I want to play again--real soon."

After rigorous playing on the field, everyone sat down to a feast of roasted pig, homemade potato salad, coleslaw, grilled peaches, watermelon, and iced tea. Yum!
