HHH Member David Link dies

On November 18th, David Link was found dead on the street. The cause of death was unclear, though he had been suffering with a leg infection for some time. "Big Dave," as he was affectionately known, was much beloved by the homeless community. He was known for his sharp chess skills, remarkable vocabulary, humility, size, and charm.

For many months, he had near perfect attendance at HHH meetings. Below is his HHH membership page:

Name: David Link

Born: Nuremberg, Germany

DOB: 9/19/53

Great loves in life: reading, chess, people

3 words to describe him: opinionated, insightful, and discerning

“Big Dave,” as he is known, is a quiet man - listening and learning whenever possible, speaking only whenever he is sure he has something to add to the conversation. When he does speak, be prepared to be impressed by the kindness of his heart (he continually reminds us of the plight of homeless children) and the eloquence of his vocabulary (a work of art!). An observer by nature, David also adds a wisdom to the group with his ability to read people. Of course, this is when he is awake. Suffering from sleep apnea, sometimes David sometimes serenades us with snoring in during the meeting.

90-Days Celebrated

Above, James Kirkpatrick poses with his 90-day chip. An avid reader, James became involved with the library and book club, both efforts that spun from HHH's relationship with the public library. These efforts were part of James facing his addiction and desire for recovery. On this day, he came back to help with the overseeing of the lockers, also part of the HHH program.

Walking with the Homeless

written by HHH secretary Claudia Moses

The A Way Home "Homelessness Awareness March" was very successful on November 17th, 2007. The weather was cool, or to some cold, but all in all it was a beautiful day, truly a blessed one.

We the HHH team of Urban Ministry Center, was a top fundraiser. We raised over $1,200 in contributions and received an award for Outstanding Impact on the community.

Great turn out, food, fun, and much more.

Congratulations all who came and joined the walk with the homeless.
