HHH Celebrates Former Intern's Graduation

HHH members took a road trip to Davidson College on Sunday, May 18th to celebrate the graduation of Mejin Leechlor. Mejin served as an intern for Homeless Helping Homeless over her spring break, helping the group set-up a can drive. The group enjoyed meeting Mejin's family. The following Tuesday, Mejin's family joined HHH for their clean-up. Mejin is pictured above with her father and Liz Clasen and Rollon Washington, both on the leadership team of HHH. Congratualtions, Mejin!

HHH Goes to the Polls

On a historic day in NC primary history, HHH members were hard at work to ensure members of the homeless community were aware of their voting rights and got to the polls. HHH leadership assisting folks in looking up their voter registration on-line, identifying their polling place, and providing transportation to the polls. Above, Bill Dorton is pictured, after he voted for the first time since JFK.

HHH Hosts Homeless Advocate Sister Mary Scullion

Last Thursday, HHH members hosted Sister Mary Scullion for a lunch and discussion. Sister Mary founded Project H.O.M.E in Philadelphia, PA and is a staunch advocate for ending homelessness. She came as a guest of the Catholic Diocese to speak to the need of affordable housing in our community. During her lunch with HHH members, she encouraged us to be a prophetic voice and never grow to accept homelessness. To move out of homelessness is not one person's responsibility, she encouraged, but all of our responsibility. Thanks for your work in Philadelphia, Sister Mary!

HHH Turnsout at Early Voting

above: HHH members wait in line to vote

HHH brought out 17 people to vote early at the main library on Wednesday 4/30. While we were proud of our largest turnout yet, we continue to be concerned about the voting rights of our homeless community. Two members who have a difficult time reading were refused help in registering and voting. We have contacted the board of election and have set up a meeting to share our concerns.
